We have all made plans to get fit and not followed through. The New Year is upon us and many will make New Year’s resolutions involving weight loss or fitness. Unfortunately, statistics show that many of those New Year’s resolutions won’t last. If a person wants to live a healthier life they need to do more than just talk about it. The harsh reality is that getting fit and trim requires a person to have a program that they can follow and the willpower to make it through the times when they want to quit.
Don’t make a personal exercise plan that is unrealistic for your life or schedule. When we initially begin a new personal exercise plan, we are often ambitious in how many hours a day we can dedicate to it and we go out and buy a six pack ab exercise program with every intention of using it regularly, and, in the beginning two hours a day may seem doable, and you might actually keep it up for a week or two. Write down your goals and progress. By tracking where you want to be and how far you have come you will find it much easier to stay focused as you exercise. When you see your goals and your progress in black and white, it is cemented not only in your mind but also in a tangible way. Being able to see those first few inches come off can be a great motivator. You should put your diary in an obvious place like a bathroom mirror or refrigerator door so you are constantly reminded. You want to think about what you are trying to accomplish often. Writing it all down is one of the best motivators a person can have. Passing by the paper on a refrigerator is a great way to put a smile on your face.
The end result of any fitness program is that you want to feel better. There are many people who believe that in order to lose weight they must do something radical and they try to lose weight fasting or by some other type of fad diet, and while they could be a good way to jumpstart a healthier lifestyle it is not a permanent solution. By not focusing on the larger idea of being healthy, you will only see things happen that provide a short term benefit. By adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes working out and choosing a proper diet a person will find it easier to live a longer life.
