I’m 45 years old and feel every bit of it most of the time. I am lucky enough to have a family that I love and that love me. {I’ve been heavy all my life.~I have struggled with weight issues most of my life.~For as long as I can remember, I have been overweight When I graduated High School, I was not very overweight. By the time I hit thirty and stepped on a scale I found out that my weight had almost doubled since I turned twenty one. I don’t recall exactly when I gained all of the extra pounds. Whether it was a job change or relationship change, for some reason I added weight. I have read the message boards at the biggest loser weight loss forum and seen this story repeated by many different people, most of us don’t know how and why we get into the shape that we do.
I believe that seeing the reality show the Biggest Loser finally gave me a push to make a change in the way I live. I was confident that I could accomplish my goal if I wanted to. I consider myself a doer and feel I have the resolve to meet goals that I set. I was not the only person in my family who could benefit from a diet. My wife and I worked as a team to figure out a solution. We knew that it was going to take more than a six pack ab exercise program, but we weren’t sure exactly what we were going to do until we started to talk to some of the people at the church that we attended and found out they had the same desire to lose weight that we did. So we formed a weight loss group and began our journey.
By having a group weigh in, we always had something to shoot for as the week went by. I felt a need to not be last in weight loss every week. I wanted to be near the top. Because of my nature, I prefer winning and felt that it was something that I could do.
Shortly after we started the Monday night program

We made adjustments to our diets. I was never told about how important every meal could be and was prone to skipping meals often. My wife and I read that the best way to diet is to eat less but to do it more often so we adopted that approach.
The week preceding the first weigh in, I got 3 workouts in. They lasted anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes. I also monitored my food intake and made sure that it was in a consistent range. At our first meeting I did not know what to expect. I could tell I’d lost some weight, but I didn’t know how much. My turn came at the meeting and I was weighed in. They showed that ten pounds had dissappeareed. I was very pleased with my results.
Every week after that I posted a 3 to 7 lb weight loss. My weight loss was tied to the amount of time I spent working out. I found that if I worked harder at my exercise routine and was more vigilant in watching what I eat, I would see a bigger drop.
When I first started losing weight, I was unsure what good it would do for me. Eventually, my clothes did not feels so tight. I noticed after about a week that I had more energy. I could not believe that by just doing a few exercises, my body would feel so rejuvenated. Some of the health issues I dealt with were subsiding. We were losing weight together, and both my wife and I were very happy and glad to keep it up. What we were doing was working. it would have been great to win a cash prize for being the biggest loser, but it is still worth it.
